New Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close Trailer: All Aboard the Polar(izing) Express

Now you, too, can get as close as David Denby will ever get to “the Daldry” prior to release: The new trailer for Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close has officially dropped via Apple. It looks just as Oscar-starved as it was a few months ago, though this time around, Warner Bros., producer Scott Rudin and director Stephen Daldry are putting all their eggs in young actor Thomas Horn’s Aspergers-y basket. Does it work? No, really — I’m asking: If the fundamental purpose of a trailer is to intrigue you enough to see the movie, is this enough to separate you from your cash? Even as I admire its conviction and commitment to its young star and tough subject matter, it’s hard to believe that the tear-streaked twee of it all won’t totally polarize the general public. That said, at this point there is only one moviegoing demographic that really matters to the ELAIC braintrust, so hey. “The Daldry” opens in limited release on Christmas Day before breaking wide on Jan. 20. Watch the Trailer for Camp Hell, the Horror Pic Jesse Eisenberg Wishes He Could Take Back

To be fair, nothing in Jesse Eisenberg’s recently filed lawsuit claims that he wishes he could take back his five-minute cameo in the low budget horror pic Camp Hell, about evil unleashing a bloodbath at a Christian youth retreat. (That’s just a guess.) The actor is simply a stickler for truth in advertising and wants his fans to know he’s “not the star of and does not appear in a prominent role in Camp Hell.” As for co-stars Bruce Davison, Dana Delaney, and Andrew McCarthy… well, you’re kinda stuck. Watch the unintentional horrors unfold in the trailer after the jump! It would appear that Eisenberg appears in the film (released on home video in August) via flashback as a troubled, demon-haunted youth whom Davison’s child-slapping minister attempts to save. He sketches. He’s in dire need of a tan. “There is no hope. There is only God’s will,” he croaks. According to reports, Eisenberg is seeking “$3 million in general damages for alleged misappropriation of right of publicity and unfair business practices.” (The film’s budget, per IMDB, is $3 million, while Academy Award nominee Eisenberg’s fee was reportedly $3,000.) Did Lionsgate’s marketing team really misuse his good name in promotional materials for Camp Hell? There’s this prominent bit from the trailer: And, well, the DVD cover: Yeeeeah. Who can blame Lionsgate for wanting to capitalize on Eisenberg’s Oscar sheen? Or Eisenberg, for wanting distance from this would-be Razzie contender? Camp Hell is currently available on DVD. [E! NBA owners, players reach tentative agreement

The NBA is ready, finally, to move their game from the boardroom back to the basketball court. After a 149-day lockout, owners and players reached a tentative agreement early Saturday morning that sets up an abbreviated 66-game season which would be begin Christmas Day with three nationally televised games. Training camps would open Dec. 9.The Dec. 25 day is significant because it represents the first day where the league traditionally profiles a handful of high-profile contests on both ESPN and ABC. This year's tripleheader would be Boston at NY at 9 a.m. on ESPN, followed by Miami at Dallas at 11:30 a.m. and Chicago at the L.A. Lakers at 2 p.m. on ABC. All times are Pacific. There are reports, however, that even more hoops action may be televised on Christmas when a new seasonlong schedule is created. The NBA's other TV partner, TNT, could also be given a game.According to reports, the league will create a 66-game schedule and the playoffs will begin and end a week later than usual, with the Finals being pushed back to late June.NBA commissioner David Stern was fearful the TV networks, which fill the league coffers with about $930 annually, would demand a substantial refund if more games - or the entire season - were lost. To ratify the deal, the NBA players union would need majority of the 430 players in the league to give it their OK. It was not determined what percentage of revenue the players ultimately will receive, a major sticking point in striking a deal. The final figures estimate the players were to get between 49%-51%. The War from the Buttons (La nouvelle guerre des boutons)

A Mars Distribution discharge of a La Petite Reine production, in colaboration with TF1 Films Push., Studio 37, Mars Films, Canal Plus. (Worldwide sales: Wild Bunch, Paris.) Created by Thomas Langmann. Directed by Christophe Barratier. Script, Stephane Keller, Barratier, Thomas Langmann, Philippe Lopes Curval, in line with the novel by Louis Pergaud. With: Laetitia Casta, Guillaume Canet, Kad Merad, Gerard Jugnot, Francois Morel, Marie Bunel, Jean Texier, Clement Godefroy, Theophile Baquet, Louis Dussol, Harols Werner, Nathan Parent, Ilona Bachelier, Thomas Goldberg. The 2nd adaptation of the identical popular youth novel hitting French screens in 7 days, scribe-helmer Christophe Barratier's "The War from the Buttons" can also be the greater film of these two. By moving Louis Pergaud's story of two contrasting categories of kids from adjacent hamlets to 1944, Barratier has the capacity to draw apparent but believe it or not effective parallels between your central action and World war 2. Fusing a thrilling children's adventure with increased dramatic overtones and including a starry cast, pic should follow within the actions of Barratier's "The Chorus" and be a substantial hit both at home and abroad. Though both Yann Samuell's "The War from the Buttons" and Barratier's film derive from the eponymous 1912 novel, the 2 projects are sufficiently different in tone and story particulars to every merit a glance, similar to the adaptations of Patricia Highsmith's "The Gifted Mr. Ripley" introduced towards the screen by Rene Clement and Anthony Minghella. In Barratier's version, protag Lebrac (Jean Texier) is not a vibrant, mercurial kid who's lost his father. Rather, he's a boy with increased bravado than brains who despises his father (Kad Merad), whom he views a coward for remaining in your own home instead of likely to fight the Spanish people. The appearance from the pretty Violette (Ilona Bachelier), the goddaughter of village tailor Simone (Laetitia Casta), draws your eyes of Lebrac and the gang. But Lebrac, who stays the majority of his classes within the corner regardless of the best efforts of his teacher (Guillaume Canet), discovers to his dismay that Violette -- as being a proper French girl and also the daughter of the professor -- wants a guy by having an intellectual bent. Assisted by Philippe Rombi's busy score, the pic's sunny early going plays in the more comical side from the introduction and wooing of Violette, in addition to Lebrac and the mates' ongoing war using the gang from the "Aztec" (Thomas Goldberg), in the village in the future. Their fights, which at various points involve stays, wooden swords, containers, pans and pots, are clearly miniature wars. The titular buttons, which people of every gang attempt to cut using their rivals' t shirts and pants, are just like war trophies, and in contrast to in Samuell's version, they're a cleverly recurring leitmotif throughout. Barratier, who co-authored the script with Stephane Keller and producer Thomas Langmann (with Philippe Lopes Curval accountable for a few of the dialogue), enables the pic to develop more dark as a lot of existence from the grown ups within the village is revealed. While playing underneath the supervision of the teacher, the kids witness the Nazis drag off a household of Jews in broad daylight, setting happens for that link between the wars from the kids and individuals from the grown ups, inside a cleverly plotted story including the mayor's weakling boy (Louis Dussol). Because the film progresses, the kids' ongoing war from the buttons involves involve criminals of war, traitors and unpredicted switches of allegiance, similar to in World war 2, adding a layer of resonance for older auds. Though much more of an ensemble piece than Samuell's version, Lebrac remains the primary protag, and also the slightly older Jean Texier plays him having a potent mixture of truthfulness, naivete and boyhood braggadocio. Except for Dussol, who's strong inside a tricky role, and Violette, Barratier stays to cliches to rapidly telegraph each kid's particular role within the gang. And as with "The Chorus," a small kid (Clement Godefroy) who would like to have fun with the large boys will get the majority of the laughs. Adult stars vary from strong to sufficient, with Canet delivering nicely shaded are the teacher who still has a torch for Simone. As possible expected in the helmer, tech package is solid and glossy overall, although the production design and costumes are too delicious for any small provincial town in war time France. To increase the overall "Button" confusion, both new versions have a similar British title, although the French title of Barratier's film means "The Brand New War from the Buttons."Camera (color, 35mm-to-HD), Jean Poisson editors, Yves Deschamps, Anne-Sophie Bion music, Philippe Rombi production designer, Francois Emmanuelli costume designer, Jean-Daniel Vuillermoz seem (Dolby Digital/DTS), Daniel Sobrino, Edouard Morin, Olivier Walczak assistant director, Laure Monrreal. Albert Brooks Has an Idea for 'Finding Nemo 2'

As you may have noticed, Pixar has come down with a fairly significant case of sequelitis in the last few years. There's 'Toy Story 3' (and maybe 'Toy Story 4'), 'Cars 2' and the upcoming 'Monster's Inc.' prequel, 'Monsters University.' (Sequel, prequel; what's the difference?) Somewhat surprisingly, the second-highest grossing Pixar film ever, 'Finding Nemo,' is not scheduled for continuation. Star Albert Brooks has an idea to change that. "I guess they'll never make another 'Nemo,'" the 'Drive' star -- and potential Oscar nominee -- told Kris Tapley at HitFix. "I see they're making another 'Monsters, Inc.' I had a wonderful idea for them. I swear to God I think there could be a great sequel to 'Nemo' where the fish never will leave home. He just won't leave. 'Getting Rid of Nemo.' Right, 'You're 30 years old! Get out of here!'" Hilars. Brooks can be seen in 'Drive' now, and he'll co-star in the tentatively titled 'This Is Forty,' Judd Apatow's follow-up/continuation of 'Knocked Up.' Barry Levinson and Sheryl Crow to Bring '80s Movie Diner to Broadway

Now, in addition to Goonies, Newsies, Carrie and Rocky, Hollywood is adapting Diner into a Broadway musical. If it works out, Diner could be the next Billy Elliott or Hairspray! And if not, it could be the next Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark. Scheduled for a fall 2012 premiere, the adaptation of Barry Levinson’s directorial debut will revive the saga of high school buddies played by Steve Guttenberg, Daniel Stern, Mickey Rourke, Kevin Bacon, Tim Daly and Paul Reiser. Oh, and did I mention that Sheryl Crow is involved? The Grammy-winning artist will write the music and lyrics for Diner, the Broadway musical, which will follow the same characters, who in the 1982 film, reunited for the wedding of one of their friends. Levinson will pen the book and Tony Award-winner Kathleen Marshall (Anything Goes, The Pajama Game) will direct and choreograph. In a press release announcing the project, Levinson added, “I’m excited to be embarking on this stage version [of Diner], which affords me the opportunity as a storyteller to expand on my original vision and let the characters express their innermost feeling and thoughts through song.” Levinson also attempted to revive his Diner characters in an ill-fated 1983 CBS television plot which starred Paul Reiser, Michael Madsen and James Spader. · Barry Levinson Books ‘Diner’ For Broadway Bow, Sheryl Crow To Write Music [Deadline]

A Good Arrangement

A Kurm Event and Produ., Secret Pact production. Created by Sarovar Banka. Co-producer, K.M. Das. Directed, compiled by Sarovar Banka. With: Adam Laupus, Shabana Azmi, Lethia Nall, Diksha Basu, Shreya Sharma, Farid Currim, Navniit Nisshan, Vikram Kadapia. (British dialogue)A vivid, remarkably accomplished version from the mix-cultural romantic comedies that regularly appear at Indian diaspora fests, Sarovar Banka's "A Good Arrangement" reps an absolute cut above average. Shot on Super 35 and supported with a magnificent score by Neel Murgai, the pic juxtaposes its American-born hero's comical look for an Indian wife by having an open-ended search for the wide roads and colorful byways of Chandigarh, the Le Corbusier-designed capital of Punjab. More "Darjeeling Limited" than typical Bollywood bride movie, Banka's wry twist on cultural confusion is going to be best appreciated by festgoers. Though born and elevated in the usa, Ashok (Adam Laupus) decides to find an Indian bride for reasons never entirely obvious even going to themself. In Chandigarh, the candidates are arranged and mix-recommended with callous efficiency by Ashok's older cousin Preeti (award-bathed actress Shabana Azmi, excellent here) and pored over and said on by Preeti's lively teenage daughter, Suriya (Shreya Sharma). But Ashok's casual dress and laid-back approach neglect to attract his status-minded prospective in-laws and regulations, and the unapologetic insufficient ambition (or worse, his vague desire to become "real" author rather than penning ad copy) sabotages a lot of Preeti's effort on his account. After a number of comic mismatches, Ashok finally meets a contender whose candor and cultural ambivalence echo their own. Amita (Diksha Basu), a stylish, well-educated modern lady in her own late 20s, takes Ashok aside to inform him she's getting married to purely to impress her traditional parents, warning him that they wants nothing related to love. The 2 prove compatible enough being careful buddies, as shots of Ashok perched easily on the rear of Amita's motorbike attest -- but hearts, flowers and sex are plainly absent. The plans proceed apace, Ashok's parents coming from America for that wedding. But Ashok has met Lorie (Lethia Nall), a backpacking American who's touring India not, she rapidly assures him, for "enlightenment," but merely to get a society not the same as her very own. With Lorie, Ashok finds out no India strained through anxiety over ethnic identity, but a panoply of sights and sounds that strike responsive guitar chords within him. Though Laupus and some of the other stars never completely inhabit their roles, their clumsiness well reads as discomfort by having an unfamiliar culture. Nonetheless, their non-professional type of thesping could pose an issue for distribs. Amol Rathod's awesome-well developed lensing captures the initial charm of Chandigarh's sights, highly abetted by Murgai's layered score, which includes many aspects of classical Indian music.Camera (color, Super 35), Amol Rathod editor, Tom Quinn music, Neel Murgai art director, Priten Patil costume designer, Roopa Sood seem designer, Anita Kushwaha casting, Avani Parikh, Gita Reddy. Will VUDU's iPad Gateway Help Walmart To Outflank iTunes?

Walmart is about to fire a warning shot at Apple's iTunes: The retail colossus will introduce on Wednesday a way for iPad users to access VUDU's Web site to buy or rent videos and view them on the tablet."We're committed to offering the VUDU experience on as many devices as possible so customers can shop for and access their favorite movies and TV shows however they want, whenever they want," says VUDU general manager Edward Lichty. Walmart has a mixed track record in video. Although it's the leading seller of DVDs, the retail chain failed in an effort to create a Netflix-like mail rental service. It also stumbled in itspartnership with Hewlett Packard to offer movie downloads. Walmart bought VUDU in 2010 and has slowly been building it into a service that's too powerful to ignore. The retailer says that VUDU is available on more than 300 electronics devices including the PlayStation 3, making it the most widely accessible broadband pay-per-view service. Its library includes more than 20,000 movies and TV shows and canbe streamed at full 1080p high-definition video quality with Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound.
